Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Health Intelligence Analyst to join the Data and Analytics team within Value Transformation, NHS Wales Performance and Improvement.
The work will be wide ranging and varied as the team is tasked with providing a health intelligence service to the broad range of stakeholders within the directorate. This role will have a primary responsibility of leading a health intelligence programme of work focused on the National Pathology Programme and National Imaging Programme but will also contribute to the wider remit of the service and react to changing priorities of our partners, as well as contributing to the team development and strategic direction of the service.
Main duties of the job
The Data and Analytics team encompasses data, analysis, information and knowledge, ensuring decision makers have the right intelligence at the right time to improve the quality, efficacy and efficiency of services to improve patient experience, safety and outcomes
We are seeking an individual with demonstrable experience of working in an information environment, who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, and driven to deliver the right intelligence at the right time for our partners. We will provide an environment in which you will be given the opportunity to gain more experience, expand your knowledge and develop new skills as part of a fast-growing team, with a key role to play in ensuring that NHS Wales Performance and Improvement delivers its objectives
Your day-to-day role will require you to have a vast array of skills in areas including analytical, advanced statistical techniques, dashboard and information flow development, people and project management and negotiation and communication in order to deliver high-profile projects to meet the team’s objectives. Where applicable, you will be given a range of responsibilities which may include developing expertise on a specific dataset, analytical method, programming language or Business Intelligence tool
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply

Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience of using a range of tools and techniques to deliver health intelligence covering data extraction, data warehouse, data analysis and data presentation.
- Experience of providing and presenting highly complex information to clinicians and senior managers.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using business intelligence tools to provide meaningful insight to a range of audiences.
- Experience of statistical analysis and mathematical modelling of highly complex information.
- Experience of using cloud computing platforms, such as Google Cloud Platform.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Advanced IT and analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of IT tools/systems such as SQL, business intelligence systems such as Power BI, statistical software such as R, and programming languages such as Python.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Excellent knowledge of NHS services and information systems
- Knowledge of the concepts of demand and capacity modelling and its application to health service planning.
Desirable criteria
- Advanced statistical and mathematical modelling skills and knowledge of techniques, such as linear and logistic regression, forecasting, queueing theory, discrete event simulation.
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Ability to manage complex and varying workloads whilst delivering to often tight timescales.
