Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Nurse to work within the Medical Day Unit based in Bronglais General Hospital.

The Medical Day Unit is a nurse led unit specialising in treatments and procedures which can be completed as a day case. We work alongside the community and other hospitals within the trust to ensure that patients are treated close to their homes and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

As part of the team, you will share the same high standards and passion, providing proactive, compassionate care and work collaboratively with other departments to ensure patients are treated promptly and appropriately.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in tasks associated to their role and will be encouraged to use evidence-based practice to further enhance their skills.

Full and part-time hours available.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job include (but are not limited to):

Admit, assess and implement a plan of care for patients attending the unit. As a nurse led unit we are expected to assess a patient's suitability to receive treatment, complete pre-treatment checks and highlight any contraindication to treatment if necessary. 

·       Undertake tasks such as cannulation, venepuncture and catheterisation (TWOC clinic). Training available as required.

·       Medication management including preparation, and administration.

·       Manage blood transfusions, immunotherapy and biological treatments, understanding the adverse reactions associated with these treatments.

·       Recognise emergency situations such as anaphylaxis, sepsis and manage appropriately.

·       Supervise health care support workers, students and junior doctors and actively participate in their ongoing education and development.

·       Assist and maintain a safe working environment.

·       Working collaboratively within the hospital and the trust to ensure a smooth referral process allowing patients to be treated within their local area.

·       Maintain accurate and clear documentation relating to patient admissions.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
