Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics

NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Doctor

Job overview

Join the paediatric team at Bronglais Hospital and develop your career while living and working in one of the most beautiful coastal regions in Wales.

We are seeking a committed Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics to join the team at Bronglais Hospital. This permanent post offers the opportunity to work at middle grade level within a supportive and well-established paediatric service, caring for children and young people across Ceredigion and Mid Wales.

You will join a rota alongside paediatric trainees and experienced Specialty Doctors, contributing to a collaborative and friendly team environment. The role includes opportunities to lead ward-based care, gain broad clinical experience, and develop a special interest through dedicated clinic time, study leave, and educational supervision.

Hywel Dda University Health Board offers the opportunity to build your career while enjoying an outstanding quality of life in West Wales. Based in Aberystwyth, you will benefit from a vibrant coastal town, a strong sense of community, and easy access to some of the UK's most spectacular coastline and countryside. The area offers a lifestyle that combines outdoor living, cultural attractions, and shorter commuting times, making it an attractive place to both live and work.

You will work within a supportive organisation that values teamwork, staff wellbeing, and professional development. Opportunities for training, teaching, and career progression are actively encouraged, enabling you to develop your skills within a diverse and rewarding clinical setting.

Main duties of the job

You will benefit from supportive working conditions while developing your career within a well-structured paediatric service.

The Women and Children's Health Directorate delivers care for children, young people, and women across Hywel Dda. The paediatric service is supported by an experienced senior nursing team and is focused on delivering high-quality, integrated care.

As a key hospital serving the population of Ceredigion and Mid Wales, Bronglais Hospital provides a broad range of general paediatric services within a close-knit and supportive clinical environment. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering safe, effective care while supporting service development and training.

The wider paediatric service across Hywel Dda is designed to meet the needs of the local population, with acute paediatrics provided across district general hospital sites and a centralised Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), managing approximately 250 admissions per year. Neonatal intensive care is supported through a regional transport service.
