Job overview

An opportunity has arisen for a Ward Clerk to join the team on Ward 7, Withybush General Hospital.

The dynamic and enthusiastic individual will need to integrate with the current team and provide efficient and effective support to the team.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to meet deadlines are essential. 

As the first point of contact for patients, relatives, and visitors, you will play a vital role in supporting the smooth running of the ward and ensuring excellent patient experience.
 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be required to: 
  • Provide a welcoming, professional reception service to all ward visitors.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring timely admission, transfer, and discharge documentation.
  • Answer telephone enquiries promptly and courteously, directing calls as appropriate.
  • Manage the flow of information between departments to support effective patient care.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and data protection standards are upheld at all times.
  • Maintain ward stationery, forms, and office supplies.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Confident communicating with patients, relatives, and healthcare professionals.
  • Able to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced ward environment.
  • Experienced in IT skills - Microsoft and email

Office/Administration experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply. 

Working for our organisation

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

Our services are provided in:

•    Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
•    Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
•    Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings
•    47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers
