Job overview

There is a rare opportunity to join the well established Adult Weight Management team in Hywel Dda University Health Board.  We are looking for an experienced dietitian who is passionate about supporting people living with complex obesity related health needs.

The successful applicant will be part of a multi-professional service delivering a range of evidence based and compassion focussed dietetic and multi-professional interventions to people living with complex obesity, whilst working closely with the wider Health Board Nutrition & Dietetics teams.  

The successful applicant will demonstrate considerable and broad adult dietetic experience, have excellent communication skills and be ready to work pro-actively as part of enthusiastic, hard working teams. They will have experience of a behavioural approach to motivating change.

Main duties of the job

As an integral part of the Adult Weight Management Service the successful applicant will

  • Deliver effective, evidence based weight management interventions to support delivery of the Healthy Weight Healthy Wales Strategy across the Health Board.
  • Use specialist adult dietetic knowledge and skills: assessing, planning and implementing treatment and delivering holistic dietetic and behavioural/ lifestyle interventions in a variety of settings.   
  • Through training and education support the development of improved knowledge and skills of the Hywel Dda workforce in the prevention and management of overweight and obesity and associated risk factors.
  • Participate in the evaluation of weight management interventions by accurately recording patient reported outcomes and experience measures.
  • Support the development and implementation of policy, guidance and standards within the weight management and wider dietetic service.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Recognised degree in dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • Evidence of attendance on accredited specialist courses and /or advanced training in relation to dietetics to postgraduate diploma leve
  • Demonstrates consolidated clinical dietetic knowledge and skills in the field of Clinical Dietetics
  • Has developed specialist knowledge as evidenced by dietetics qualification and additional formal learning / demonstrable experience in weight management
  • Skills in behavioral approaches including motivational interviewing
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of, and ability to apply, evidence base in relation to dietetic practice and development of practice
  • Critical Appraisal Skills: knowledge of current and emerging evidence base, national and professional policy, guidance and best practice in the delivery and development of the specialist area of dietetic work
  • Well established clinical problem solving skills
  • Demonstrates effective organisational skills including prioritisation of workload, effective caseload management and delegation of tasks
  • Well established teaching and presentation skills

  • Other professional, technical or academic qualification which relate to area of clinical Dietetic practice

  • Demonstrable experience in adult dietetics
  • Experience of working in acute and community settings to deliver dietetic care
  • Evidence of working as part of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of teaching other health care staff
  • Evidence of involvement in development work in dietetic services e.g. audit, implementing a change in practice, delivering a new dietetic intervention
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of delivery of patient group education
