Applications are invited for a Consultant in Anaesthesia at Mid Cheshire Hospital Foundation Trust (MCHFT). This exciting opportunity to join a friendly, dynamic team focused on providing high quality patient care for a diverse range of patients.
The appointee will be based at Leighton Hospital, on the outskirts of Crewe. The locations benefits from a great position, surrounded by green fields and close to many charming small towns and villages. The Peak District and North Wales are within easy reach, and there are also good transport connections to Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and London.
The Treatment Centre comprises of 4-day case theatres, 5 endoscopy rooms and a recovery area. There are 7 inpatient theatres including one 24 hour a day emergency theatre and an orthopaedic barn theatre.
The award-winning Maternity Department consists of a self-contained midwife led unit with 3 rooms with birthing pools. The delivery suite has 6 standard delivery rooms, 2 theatres and a 2 bedded recovery area.
The spacious Critical Care Unit located adjacent to the theatre suite has recently been expanded. This provides an integrated 18 bedded area with four potential isolation rooms and the ability to cohort into a four-bedded area separate from the main unit.
A Surgical Admission Lounge (SAL) next to theatre admits patients on the day for elective operations.
The proposed AAC date is 12/06/2024.
Main duties of the job
Duties will include anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases including paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics and general surgery, with opportunities to contribute to all aspects of the department’s activities, and those of the wider Trust.
The job plan will include 8 PAs on average per week including 1.25 PAs for on call/weekend trauma. The on-call rota is shared between the eligible general Consultant Anaesthetists, with an additional commitment of 3 trauma weekends per year.
2.0 PAs per week comprising of 1.5 SPA for private CPD, audit, appraisal, education/supervision, and research and a further 0.5 SPA for service development roles, for which evidence of activity will be monitored

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the GMC with a Licence to Practise
- Higher training in general, urological and gynaecological anaesthesia
- Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
- Evidence of:
- Specialist Registration or within 6 months of CCT
Desirable criteria
- Additional degree or post-graduate qualification (MRCP, MD etc.)
- ATLS (or equivalent)
- Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
- Evidence of implementing change to improve patient care
- Evidence of:
- Attendance at recognised management courses
