Job overview

A practising healthcare practitioner who provides assistance for qualified Practitioners in the Adult Audiology Department. This involves:

  1. Providing hearing assessments and basic rehabilitation support for hearing aid users.
  2. Providing basic hearing aid repairs.
  3. Communicating effectively with professionals and patients and their partners / carers who usually have barriers to communication in the form of hearing and visual impairments.
  4. Supporting the administrative role in the department by stock maintenance, and earmould processing, using stock control and ordering systems, computer databases and software.
  5. Maintaining patient records.
  6. Contributing to the efficient and effective running of the Audiology service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Assist the Healthcare Practitioners and Scientists in the provision of specific clinical work on a daily basis, ensuring an efficient and effective service within clinical governance guidelines.
  • Plan and prioritise own workload, taking into account changes in department priorities and interruptions to work pattern. Assisting with assessments of hearing thresholds using air conduction headphones and bone conduction vibrator to BSA guidelines. This will inform Audiology practitioners of the need for further management.
