Job overview

Applications are invited for a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Lower Limb Arthroplasty  based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. 

The successful applicant will join a dynamic forward thinking team of 7 Arthroplasty Surgeons in the department.  The team currently undertake a range of lower limb arthroplasty procedures including revision, hip and knee and soft tissue knee.

The department also consists of 2 Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons,2 Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and  2 Hand and Wrist Surgeons. The orthopaedic sub division is supported by a full time  Consultant Orthogeriatrician and a accompanying team.

Main duties of the job

Whilst the successful candidate will work the majority of their time at Leighton, there will be occasions where it will be necessary to work a Victoria Royal Infirmary for outpatient clinics.

The successful candidate will provide a rage of duties including elective operating, trauma operating, elective and fracture clinics, MDT and on-call.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post is offered at 10PAs with 8 PAs on average allocated to DCC and 2 PAs on average allocated to SPA.

There is a requirement for the successful candidate to participate on the on-call rota and this is currently 1:12 weekends and 1 weekday every 3 weeks.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration and LTP
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview). CESR or European Community Rights
  • An appropriate higher qualification in Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • ATLS
Desirable criteria
  • Further postgraduate degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Specialist Registrar Training or equivalent in Orthopaedic Surgery
  • An understanding of departmental management
Desirable criteria
  • Managerial Training
  • Lower limb arthroplasty and soft tissue knee surgery training with fellowship

Ability

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability in trauma and orthopaedic surgery
  • Evidence of ability to lead a team effectively
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of personal outcome data related to specialist interest in lower limb surgery with fellowship training

Audit & Research

Essential criteria
  • Interest and knowledge of audit
  • Evidence of completion of audit
  • Publlished research or audits or case reports in peer reviewed journals
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of expericen in research and relevant publications related to lower limb surgery and trauma

Teaching & Education

Essential criteria
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for trainee doctors with the GMC

Other

Essential criteria
  • Effective communication skills. Highly innovative
Desirable criteria
  • Up to date knowledge of NHS and future challenges
