Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Cardiothoracic imaging.

The North Wales Cardiac centre is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital (YGC). There are two Cath laboratories based in YGC. The role encompasses Cardiac CT and MRI reporting, working alongside both radiology and cardiology colleagues to provide a pan BCUHB service. There are 5 Radiologists involved in the delivery of the cardiac service in BCUHB.

Within the thoracic imaging service there are specialist oncology services as well as specialist respiratory services including interstitial lung diseases (ILD). The roll out of the national lung screening services is imminent in Wales and the post holder will be involved in the delivery of this service as well. There are 7 Radiologists involved in providing the thoracic radiology service across BCUHB.

The cardiac CT and MRI services are provided on all three sites across North Wales. There are weekly subspeciality MDT commitments for both cardiac and thoracic imaging including ILD.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a specialist interest in Cardiothoracic imaging and contribute to the service provision and development of both subspeciality areas

The post holder will have responsibility for teaching, quality assurance, and service management within their specialist areas and will contribute to the wider workload of the department subject to job plan discussions, including general radiology, on call rotas and teaching of radiology trainees, undergraduate students, and other hospital staff.

We have strong links with the University of Wales, Bangor and candidates would have an opportunity to develop research links and / or teaching links with the University. Opportunities for research have been enhanced with University Health Board status linking to Bangor and Wrexham universities. The directorate also employs two Research Radiographers to support this work.

Consultants contribute to management of clinical risk through monitoring clinical incidences and participating in the departmental discrepancy meetings. Compliance with the department complaints and litigation policies contribute to good risk management. Good record keeping is expected and consultants are expected to participate in Audit. Research is encouraged particularly when this is appropriate to the professional development of the successful candidate and to the service development of the directorate.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration
  • FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • On the GMC Specialist Register in Radiology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in cross sectional including cardiac and thoracic imaging
Desirable criteria
  • Broad experience in general radiology
  • Image guided biopsy
  • Cardiothoracic MDT experience

Skills and Ability
