Job overview
Child Health Information Service (CHIS) is a data management service. We are responsible receiving, recording, and sharing standardised and accurate data and information to maintain the Child Health Record for each child aged 0-19 in Cumbria. We cover those who live in, move in and those who attend Cumbria Schools.
The CHIS Team Leader post is responsible for the day to day running of the team and to provides supervision to the Child Health Information team within the local CHIS Departments. Managing the team’s performance and delivering activity within agreed standard operating procedures and to defined quality standards and failsafe mechanisms. Ensure training needs are met for individuals.
The post requires and extensive knowledge of data including analysing and monitoring data quality using excel spreadsheets and csv.
You will need to work with the other Band 4's supplying cover during holiday’s etc.
There may be a requirement to attend other bases and so they may be a need to travel across the county as required.
Main duties of the job
The CHIS Team Leader post is responsible for the day to day running of the Child Health information team and to provide supervision to the Child Health Information team within the local CHIS Department. Managing the team’s performance and delivering activity within agreed standard operating procedures and to defined quality standards and failsafe mechanisms. To ensure training needs are met for individuals.
Assist the Child Health Information Manager in the development of the service, including supporting with service improvement initiatives and digital modernisation. Carrying out crucial data quality checks that support the continued development and improvement of data quality across Child Health services. Whilst also developing expertise in CHIS IT systems.
Supporting, preparing and presenting of analytical data and quality failsafe reports.
Be fully conversant with and adhere to all work related policies, procedures and guidelines, ensuring that all work outputs are completed as required and that all related targets and timescales are met.
Ensure that any/all work outputs are produced to a high standard of quality that meets all of the organisations requirements for Information Governance, RMS, and CQC and which is compliant with all associated national, regional and local policies, procedures and guidelines.

Essential criteria
- NVQ level 4 admin/health records or equivalent or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
Desirable criteria

Essential criteria
- Demonstrable NHS experience within a Child Health Department
- Relevant knowledge and experience of Child Health Systems or significant experience within an NHS environment.
- Experience of quality data input, identifying and correcting erroneous data, which requires the ability to screen complex health records and identify such issues as missing immunisations, health checks and child protection correspondence and then taking appropriate action.
- Experience and confidence to give advice and deal with queries from the public and health professionals with regard to the National Immunisation and Health Surveillance programme for children in an appropriate and timely manner.
- An understanding of the National Programme for IT (NPFIT) and specialist knowledge of Child Health systems; databases, spreadsheets with an ability to produce analytical reports.
- Specialist knowledge of filing systems (particularly of health records), collation and maintenance of health records. Knowledge of medical terminology in particular coding skills required for the National Immunisation & Health Surveillance Programme for children.
- Experience of working to tight deadlines using initiative, delegation skills and prioritising work for self and team members
- A specialist knowledge of Child Health systems; databases, spreadsheets with an ability to produce analytical reports.
- Experience and knowledge in all aspects of human resources procedures including appraisals, sickness and recruitment.
- Have an understanding of relevant legislation: Health & Safety; Data Protection; Caldicott, and confidentiality.
- Experience of supervising and managing staff within the NHS.
