A full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including ERCP, are available.

We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to expand our GI services in North Cumbria. This post, a replacement post (available due to retirement) is to support the Bowel Cancer Screening service. The successful candidate will contribute to dedicated Bowel Cancer Screening lists. For those interested, there will be opportunities to take on a leadership role within Bowel Cancer Screening and endoscopy services in general.  In addition, there are 2 general gastroenterology posts funded to join our current team. The post holder will be required to support the GI bleeding rota.

Main duties of the job

The gastroenterology consultant team share the responsibility of “Consultant of the Week” on a rotational basis to cover the GI inpatient work and contribute to the GI bleed rota. The team is supported by deanery trainees, Trust doctors and specialist nurses.

The post holder may be expected to fulfil some of their clinical commitments on other sites in the Trust.

We are passionate about teaching, and you will be able to play your part in teaching the next generation of doctors, nurses and other allied health professionals. You will have the opportunity to provide endoscopy training locally and to contribute to NETA – The Northern Endoscopy Training Academy. You will be involved in the recruitment of junior staff and to supervise their education, appraisal, and study leave. We will support you in keeping up to date on educational developments.
