Clinical Nurse Specialist in Early Pregnancy Care B7 - 30hrs
An exciting opportunity has arisen within Early Pregnancy , to work within our small team. You will be involved in the triaging of Early Pregnancy referrals from other Healthcare Professionals, providing telephone advice, undertaking Early Pregnancy Clinics and providing Outreach support to other areas of the hospital e.g . A&E, SDEC & the wards.. This post is to complement the existing CNS Early Pregnancy team at the Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital.
Main duties of the job
You will require excellent communication skills, the ability to work as a team member and also autonomously. You will be required to prioritise your case loads.
The post will involve:
- Act as an Independent Practitioner, using advanced skills, including medical ultrasound imaging to assess, diagnose and prescribe management plan
- Triage Early Pregnancy referrals – Email / ICE / Private scan clinic and mobile phone referrals
- Carry the EPAU mobile
- Outreach with A&E / SDEC / day case / theatre / Wards
- Manage Pregnancy Tissue – collection – storage – testing – results
- Deal with incidences / complaints
- Assist with organising Medical Management of Miscarriage (MMM )/ Surgical Management of Miscarriage (SMoM) to aid smooth running of clinic
- Mifepristone administration
- Update Policies / Guidelines / SOP's
- Review Blood / swab results and create management plans
- Attend handover / liaise with On Call Gynaecology team to address any pending patients
- Administer Methotrexate
- Manage hyperemesis patient

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse/midwife with current registration
- Substantial broad experience relevant to area of practice
- Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by post graduate diploma specialist training, experience, short courses plus further specialist training to master’s equivalent level
- Mentor/teaching qualification
- Postholder will have a Post graduate Medical Ultrasound qualification
Desirable criteria
- Independent Prescriber
- Qualification in Sexual and Reproductive Health
- Hold Letter of Competence FSRH in sub-dermal implant fitting and removal.
- Hold Letter of Competence FSRH in intrauterine device fitting
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant post registration experience. Experience of working in gynaecology in particular early pregnancy
- Demonstrate ability to manage own workload.
- In depth knowledge of early pregnancy, the treatment and care related to it.
- Awareness of recent developments in practice
- Demonstrate continued learning.
- Be aware of and act in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct.
- Be aware of the Trusts Nursing and Midwifery Strategy.
Desirable criteria
- Autonomous Practitioner in Early Pregnancy, Gynaecology, Contraception and Termination of Pregnancy clinics.
- Evidence of audit and research based practice.
- Active role in service development
- Ultrasound experience within Gynaecology specifically early pregnancy
- Up to date knowledge of all forms of contraception and their suitability for the individual using concordance as an advisory tool.
- Safeguarding knowledge and experience, identifying those at risk and making appropriate referrals
- Experience in budget management
- Has the knowledge to support safe clinical decision making in relation to treatment of patients in women’s outpatients
