Job overview
We are delighted to offer an opportunity for high-calibre and highly skilled candidates to join the anaesthetic team within University Hospitals of Derby & Burton.
We are seeking to appoint 2 Specialist Anaesthetist (Specialist Doctor 2021 grade) with an interest and experience in Obstetric Anaesthesia to join our progressive Obstetric Anaesthetic team.
The roles present the suitable applicants with an opportunity to join a bright and dynamic Department of over 160 anaesthetists across the Trust, and you will be mentored and supported to flourish in your career.
Main duties of the job
The 2 posts are to be initially based at the Royal Derby Hospital but cross-site working at other Hospitals within UHDB is possible and would be supported and encouraged. The main area of working would be in Obstetric anaesthesia but remaining sessions would be delivered in non-Obstetric theatre lists to fulfil departmental need whilst being supportive of candidates' non-Obstetric interests.
As experienced and senior members of the anaesthetic team, involvement in managerial aspects and roles within the anaesthetic department will be encouraged and supported.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Applicants must hold full GMC Registration with a licence to practice at time of application, and be able to demonstrate a wide range of experience in all aspects of anaesthesia and have:
Minimum of 12 years medical experience since primary medical qualification
Minimum of 6 years as SAS grade or equivalent in anaesthesia
Minimum 3 years recent experience in Obstetric anaesthesia
Previous experience working in the NHS.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS/MBBCh or equivalent
- Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of application
- Shall meet the criteria set out in the Specialist Grade Generic Capabilities
Desirable criteria
- Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty
- Membership examination with the relevant UK Royal College
- Postgraduate Qualification in anaesthesia or associated discipline.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 12 years medical experience since primary medical qualification
- Minimum of 6 years as SAS grade or equivalent in anaesthesia
- Minimum 3 years recent experience in Obstetrics anaesthesia
- Previous experience working in the NHS.
Management
Desirable criteria
- Undertaken training in management and or team working
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Critically assesses learning requirements for self and others
- Meets the requirements of a sessional supervisor as defined by the RCoA
Desirable criteria
- Plans and provides effective teaching and training activities
- Meets the requirements of a clinical/ educational supervisor, as defined by the GMC
- Formal educational qualification
- Life support instructor.
Research and Audit
Desirable criteria
- Undertakes significant involvement in clinical research
