Job overview
We are seeking a dedicated and forward‑thinking Lead Clinical Educator (Nursing) to support our growing Interventional Radiology nursing workforce and drive high‑quality clinical education within this highly specialised environment.
As the Lead Clinical Educator for Nursing within Interventional Radiology, you will lead the delivery of our nursing education strategy, ensuring our IR nurses and support staff have the specialist knowledge, technical skills and confidence required to work safely in a dynamic and complex procedural setting.
You will be the professional nursing lead for education in IR, acting as a visible role model, providing hands‑on clinical teaching, and ensuring that learning is embedded into everyday practice. You’ll also work closely with senior nursing staff, education teams and service managers to maintain excellent standards of care, practice and workforce development.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a senior IR nurse to step into a strategic yet highly clinical education leadership role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Managerial Responsibilities
- Lead, coordinate and evaluate nursing education programmes for Interventional Radiology that meet service needs and regulatory requirements
- Support the delivery of corporate, mandatory and statutory training for all nursing staff and maintain accurate training records
- Develop and deliver induction programmes and support the completion of mandatory competencies for nursing and support staff
- Undertake regular training needs analysis to identify learning priorities for the Interventional Radiology nursing workforce
- Ensure that all education activity aligns with Trust policies and Care Quality Commission standards
- Promote multidisciplinary learning opportunities and contribute to collaborative educator working across Imaging services
- Audit the effectiveness of educational delivery and contribute to service improvement and governance reviews
- Represent the Interventional Radiology nursing team within education and curriculum development meetings and liaise with higher education institutions
- Undertake line management responsibilities for education staff where required including supervision, recruitment, allocation of work and performance review
- Produce reports relating to training activity, performance measures and progress against educational objectives
Clinical Responsibilities
- Maintain clinical credibility and act as a senior nursing resource in the Interventional Radiology environment
- Support high standards of patient care and ensure that practice follows national and local guidelines
- Provide in clinical teaching including scrub competencies, circulating practice, equipment use and safe handling of high risk medical devices
- Offer hands on guidance and supervision to nursing staff during procedures and support the development of specialist technical skills
- Assist learners in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care within Interventional Radiology pathways
- Promote collaborative working with the multidisciplinary team and support shared learning across professions
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain up to date specialist knowledge in Interventional Radiology and ensure all education is evidence based
- Support staff appraisal processes and assist with identifying individual learning needs
- Promote a positive and supportive learning culture that values professional development
- Work within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code and adhere to relevant national standards and guidelines
- Contribute to quality improvement projects and service development initiatives
- Ensure appropriate use and maintenance of educational equipment and simulation resources
- Assist with planning and managing educational resources effectively
Communication and Working Relationships
The post holder will work closely with:
- The Department of Professional Healthcare Education
- Senior nursing and medical staff within Interventional Radiology
- Trust Clinical Educators and education leads
- Higher education partners and student placement teams
- Service line managers and professional leads
- Multidisciplinary staff across Imaging and wider departments

Person specification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- • Proven highly developed specialist knowledge within Interventional Radiology, underpinned by theory and experience
- • Demonstrable experience in the implementation of education initiatives
Desirable criteria
- • Demonstrable experience with implementing change
- • Proven knowledge of Interventional Radiology learning resources
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- • Current and active registration RN with the NMC (HCPC depending on staff group)
- • Educational Qualification e.g. Certificate in Education/Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma in Education or willing to undertake
- • BLS/ILS
- • Educated to Degree Level in healthcare studies
Desirable criteria
- • Management Qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience
- • Interventional Radiology specific courses
APTITUDE & ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- • Good communication skills, written and verbal with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity and effectiveness at all levels. ·
- • Keyboard skills, use of presentation, projection/multi-media equipment and e-learning resources; demonstrates clinical / developed clinical skills. ·
