Job overview

We are looking for a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner in beautiful South Devon. The successful candidate will work in the inpatient theatre department.

You be responsible for the delivery of high quality patient focused care and provide and maintain a safe environment for all patients attending theatres

You will co-ordinate and carry out perioperative care with minimal supervision, acting as a role model and working with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in achieving a high standard of patient care and having a positive impact on patients’ perioperative journey.
  • Work as a Scrub Practitioner as well as circulating within theatre delivering quality of care and maintenance of standards.
  • Supervision of students of nursing, Operating department practitioners, nurses on adaptation programme and post registration learners.
  • Act as a team leader within theatres.
  • Co-ordinate the department in the absence of band 6 under supervision of band 7.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) / Registered Operating 
    Department Practitioner (HCPC).
  • Ability to assess, plan and evaluate patient care.
  • Organisational and leadership skills.
  • Flexibility in being able to provide service cover during nights / weekends / on call as required.
  • Highly developed physical/clinical skills where accuracy is important.
  • Manual dexterity for setting up equipment and safe use of medical devices.
  •  Moving and manual handling of patients and equipment.
  • Counselling/supporting staff/patients/relatives.
  • Concentration in theatre, setting up theatre, checking patients in, assisting during operations
