Job overview
This role will primarily be working within Bayview Restaurant as a Retail Supervisor, providing a first class dining experience for the staff and visitors of Torbay hospital.
You will be part of a management structure which supports departmental teams in providing an appropriate environment for staff, visitor and patient care and liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure that standards are in line with the service agreements.
Providing training and monitoring of staff performance, ensure appropriate allocation of staff to their duties. Conduct catering audits of sites to ensure that standards are upheld and corrective actions taken, ensuring that high standards of quality and food safety are maintained at all times.
To provide support and assistance to the regeneration and fresh cooked menus provided by the catering locations for service users ensuring a high standard of service delivery in relation to all catering service functions, this includes helping with the day to day provision of all the catering provided within the localities of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, including hospitality, vending, retail and patient feeding.
You will be required to work with a high regard to food safety legislation and in accordance with the departments HACCP procedures and paper work and to provide a high-quality service to all customers using all catering facilities and provide efficient administrative support.
Main duties of the job
- Work autonomously and manage your own workload.
- Plan and organise straightforward activities, some judgements which will involve facts or situations requiring analysis.
- Duties may include cleaning, the preparation and presentation of customers’ meals and beverages, and on occasion delivery duties. You will need to ensure Catering & Retail Support Assistant Higher level are provided with the equipment and provisions required for their role. Patient and Retail Catering Supervisors will be expected to demonstrate a flexible attitude to their work, to meet the needs of the Trust its customers and patients.
- Support line managers in identifying the skills and training required for all staff to meet facilities standards throughout the trust. The requirement to manage resources effectively and efficiently to provide a sustainable continuity of service, by ensuring there are sufficient catering materials available for use, ordering and topping up as necessary, organises and adjusts staff rotas within agreed work schedules

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Responsibility for maintaining good safe working practices and hygiene standards, to adhere to Food Safety legislation, to be able to supervise a team of staff providing high-quality and comprehensive cleaning and patient food service.
- This role is primarily a hands-on supervision position, you will learn all the back-ground skills and knowledge to enable you to support and lead your team, with opportunity to progress within the service.
- You will be expected to work effectively as part of a dedicated team or sometimes as an individual you should be willing to work in a flexible manner
- Working rostered shift basis available from: 06:30am–8:00pm covering 7 days, including weekends and Bank holidays of varied shift patterns to be discussed at interview .
