DIETETICS DEPARTMENT

ROTATIONAL DIETITIAN (BAND 5) 4 WTE (i.e. 4 full time posts)  

This is a very exciting opportunity to join an integrated Acute and Community Dietetic service based in Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester. If you are a newly qualified or due to qualify Dietitian who is seeking the opportunity to experience a wide range of Clinical Dietetics and looking for an opportunity to develop your skills we would love to hear from you.

You will be involved in a 9 month rotation through a number of specialities within the service, including Acute inpatients, Community Dietetics, Paediatrics, Renal with also the opportunity to experience Home Enteral Nutrition and Oncology services.

You will be based at Dorset County Hospital as part of the wider Dietetic Department of 30 dietetic, nurse and admin staff and you will have easy access to them for peer and senior support. You will also build professional relationships with your MDT colleagues.

Your line manager will provide regular reviews/support, to help you develop your skills.  The Department encourages CPD and benefits from good relationships with neighbouring Dietetic Teams, with twice-yearly Dorset-wide Dietetic CPD sessions in addition to monthly Departmental sessions.

Main duties of the job

Maintain HCPC dietetic registration and provide effective and evidence based dietetic services to inpatients and outpatients at Dorset County Hospital and in other locations in both one-to-one and group settings.

Contribute to other aspects of Departmental working such as staff education and catering developments.

Work across a range of clinical areas on a 9 month rotation, which was involve working in a range of specialist areas e.g. Community, Renal, Paediatrics, Acute, Home Enteral Nutrition and Oncology, under the supervision of a line manager

Manage a varied caseload, working within the standards of the HCPC, BDA and the Trust.

Work as part of the wider Dietetic Team in the promotion of holistic patient-centred care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Work across a range of clinical areas on a 9 month rotation, which was involve working in a range of specialist areas e.g. Community, Renal, Paediatrics, Acute, Home Enteral Nutrition and Oncology, under the supervision of a line manager
  • Manage a varied caseload, working within the standards of the HCPC, BDA and the Trust.
  • Work as part of the wider Dietetic Team in the promotion of holistic patient-centred care.
  • Communicating with: patients, their relatives and carers, other health and social care professionals within both ward and community multidisciplinary teams, dietetic colleagues within the Department and externally, your line manager and Chief Dietitian, non-clinical staff such as catering, administrators and housekeepers, dietetic students and those studying other subjects.
  • Provide clinical dietetic services to the designated patient caseload.
  • Maintain continual professional registration as a Dietitian whilst in post.
  • Undertake clinical assessment and make judgements on the designated generalist clinical caseload in line with the HCPC Standards and BDA Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure judgements are evidenced based, patient centred and holistic, as described in the BDA Model and Process for Nutrition and Dietetic Practice.
  • Plan and organise the dietetic clinical care for the designated caseload of patients including initial consultation, monitoring/reassessment (if required) and discharge.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registration as a Dietitian
  • British Dietetic Association Membership

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working across a range of clinical areas applicable to the work of a District General Hospital within a UK setting including in- and out-patient settings, acute and community
  • Experience of leading group sessions.
  • Experience of managing a busy workload and multitasking/dealing with frequent interruptions
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using initiative
  • Experience of producing written patient information e.g. a leaflet
  • Experience of producing an information display or other mass-communication method.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and good interpersonal skills relevant to both clinical and professional spheres.
  • A working knowledge of best dietetic practice for a range of clinical conditions relevant to work in a District General Hospital within an UK setting
  • Able to work independently and also contribute to the team
  • Able to learn from feedback.
  • Competent IT skills relevant to Microsoft Office and health-specific programmes.
  • Ability to monitor own work against quality standards e.g. HCPC/BDA record keeping standards and information governance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
  • • Understanding of the financial pressures within day-to-day dietetic working.
