Job overview

This is a stimulating post for a MRI radiographer who is keen on high quality service development and delivery.  The post holder will work alongside the Cross sectional Lead to ensure the development of the MRI Service at Dorset County Hospital. Dorset County Hospital currently has 2 MRI scanners on the Dorchester site and will be looking to develop the Weymouth site as part of the CDC programme.  

The Diagnostic Imaging Department was rated GOOD by the CQC and has achieved Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) Accreditation. Services are provided at the main Dorset County Hospital site and five community hospitals. The department has CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Interventional Radiology with approximately 190,0000 examinations per annum across the department.

UKVI Sponsorship: This role is eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route, as defined by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). We welcome applications from individuals who require sponsorship to work in the UK. Sponsorship will be offered subject to meeting UKVI eligibility criteria.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic and innovative Lead MRI Radiographer ready to take up this challenging role in our friendly and dynamic department. Training in advanced MRI techniques would be desirable with special focus on cardiac MRI.

The Radiology Department is committed to facilitating flexible ways of working to help balance work and home life, whilst improving service delivery, motivation and morale. There is an opportunity for the candidate to undertake an MRI reporting course as funding has been identified and support from the consultant radiologists in the form of a mentor.

Education Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • BSc Radiography or equivalent Diploma in radiography
  • Post graduate qualification in MRI or equivalent experience
  • HCPC Registration

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • High standard of technical skill in MRI
  • Understanding of all legislation related to imaging.
  • Ability to problem solve on technical issues and supervise MRI equipment and maintenance
  • Demonstrable Negotiating and communication skills to facilitate inter departmental working and change management
  • Understanding of the imaging requirements for the 28 FDS targets of referral to diagnosis
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist skills in an advanced MRI imaging technique or reporting would be an advantage
  • Awareness of budgetary implications

Knowledge and experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of a wide range of MRI procedures including specialist imaging
  • Experience of organising and managing and leading a skilled team
  • Evidence of involvement of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of service delivery redesign, and implementation.
  • Experience in recruitment and human resource management
