Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our Stroke and Neurotherapy team . We are looking to recruit a skilled, experienced and enthusiastic physiotherapist to join our team, to work on our Stroke and Neurotherapy rotation.
University Hospitals Dorset provides a service for Poole and Bournemouth patients, therefore this post will involve rotations on both Poole Hospitals and Royal Bournemouth Hospital sites.
In this post you will work as part of the collaborative therapy team, alongside Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy colleagues and therapy techs, and you will be supported by Band 7 therapists.
This position will allow you to extend your specialised physiotherapy assessments and treatment skills, complex case management, and discharge planning. The post also includes supervision of more junior staff; involvement in service development initiatives; and in-service training.
The rotations include
- Stroke Unit- RBH site
- Neuro inpatients - both sites
- Early Supported Discharge – cross site service
- Hyper Acute Stroke unit – RBH site
- Acquired Brain Injury unit - Poole sit

To be successful in the post, you will have:
- A degree/ diploma in physiotherapy
- At least 18 months experience, including work within the NHS, and experience of working with stroke and/or neurological patients
- Excellent time management skills
- An ability to work as part of a team
- Car driver with car available for business use

Participation in on-call, weekend working and extended hours are an integral part of this post.
Rota: 1 weekend in 6 and 1 late shift per week
This role requires active HCPC registration
Base Location: Royal Bournemouth Hospital and Poole Hospital

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- State Registered (HCPC)
- BSc (Hons), MSc or Equivalent in Physiotherapy
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 18-24 months of postgraduate experience across core areas Neurology Respiratory Musculoskeletal Medicine for the Elderly Orthopaedics
- Experience of working within an NHS acute/rehab hospital
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Sound understanding of the pathology of neurological conditions
- Basic understanding of Neuroplasticity and theoretical rationale behind neurotherapy interventions
- Knowledge of the clinical pathway for neurological patients from acute care to long term management
Other rewuirements specific to the role
Essential criteria
- Ability to drive and hold a clean drivers licence
- Ability to assess, manage & treat neurological conditions and patients with complex multi pathologies at specialist level
- Ability to teach & supervise band 5 staff & assistants
