Job overview
As a skilled Reporting Sonographer you will provide a caring and compassionate imaging service at the heart of the community. You need to be able to work independently, demonstrating a high level of competence and will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Main duties of the job
As a skilled Sonographer you will provide a caring, compassionate approach within our high quality imaging team. You need to be able to work independently, demonstrating a high level of competence (aligned to NHS pathways, NICE and BMUS guidelines) and will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills. Candidates should be skilled in general abdominal and gynae scanning. Experience in small parts, lumps and bumps, and vascular scanning (DVT) would also be an advantage.
CPD is supported and the post holder will participate in regular peer review meetings and audit feedback. This post offers an excellent opportunity to develop your professional and clinical skills

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job summary
To carry out ultrasound examinations in line with BMUS guidelines and professional competence.
To prioritise and organise own caseload.
To be able to work independently within a clearly defined set of department protocols and make informed clinical decisions in the absence of a Radiologist or seek a second opinion when required.
For each examination undertaken, a comprehensive diagnostic report will be formulated and returned to the referring clinician.
The post holder/s will be accountable for their own professional actions (including reporting) and have supervision responsibilities.

- Degree level qualification in radiography or equivalent professional radiography qualification
- Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma / MSc in Medical Ultrasound
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experienced Sonographer, 3 years post graduate experience
- Experience of advanced ultrasound clinical practice e.g. MSK, vascular, interventional
- Experience of supervising and training Sonographers and trainee Sonographers at M-level
- Knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017
- Use of PACS, RIS and CR Systems at key user level.
Skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate highly complex, sensitive information where developed persuasive, motivational, negotiating empathic or reassurance skills are required.
- Ability to interpret ultrasound scans and report on patients’ conditions and make an appropriate diagnosis from a range of options.
- Ability to deal with difficult situations where there is a barrier to understanding or a highly emotive atmosphere
- Organisation of daily departmental workload, planning appointment schedules for patients
- IT skills to personally record and generate clinical observations
- Valid UK drivers licence
- Advanced ultrasound skills with ability to undertake, assess and report own caseload of patients requiring ultrasound examinations
- Ability to work autonomously, to organise ultrasonography clinical service, workload and make informed clinical decisions
