Our sites span across Sussex, and we offer flexibility in your base location—this role can be based at one of several sites within the county.
Main duties of the job
As a Maintenance Assistant, you'll support the day-to-day upkeep of our buildings, covering basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and general fabric maintenance tasks across various healthcare sites. Your responsibilities will include:

Responding to maintenance requests and carrying out routine repairs.

Supporting planned preventative maintenance schedules.

Assisting skilled trades staff where needed.

Ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with Trust policies.

Qualifications and/or professional registration
Essential criteria
- GCSE pass in Maths and English or equivalent qualification or level of attainment can be demonstrated.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent vocational qualification.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of basic engineering plant and equipment maintenance including lighting and power systems, portable appliances, domestic appliances, firefighting systems and other associated building services plant and equipment. Basic Carpentry skills are also required.
Desirable criteria
- Experience in a similar role.
- Experience of using computers.
Skills and knowledge
Essential criteria
- To effect basic repairs to mechanical and electrical plant and equipment.
- Skilled in the basic use of hand and powered tools.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Must possess good time management skills.
- Use of planned maintenance systems and record keeping
- An understanding in relation to service delivery and relationships with colleagues.
Desirable criteria
- Written and verbal communication skills enabling recording of plant data and records.
- Able to interpret and work from instructions.
- Awareness of the Health and Safety at Work Act, Electricity at Work Act, Legionella Control
- Awareness of other trade duties
Other requirements
Essential criteria
- Access to own vehicle for work purposes.
