We are one of the largest organisations in East Sussex with an annual income of £568 million and we are the only integrated provider of acute and community care in Sussex.

In 2020 the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated us as ‘Good’ overall, and ‘Outstanding’ for being Caring and Effective. The Conquest Hospital in Hastings and our Community Services were rated ‘Outstanding’ and Eastbourne DGH was rated ‘Good’ Our two acute hospitals have Emergency Departments and provide 24 hour a day care, offering a comprehensive range of surgical, medical, outpatient and maternity services, supported by a full range of diagnostic and therapy services.

Job overview

Locum Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine – East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

We are looking to appoint a  dynamic forward-thinking Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our current team at Conquest Hospital. This new post will support our expanding  Acute Assessment team on  an AAU with 19 beds, and a purpose-built Same Day Emergency Care Unit with 8 trolleys and 2 dedicated treatment rooms.

Main duties of the job

Candidates with a background in Acute Medicine, or those dual trained in General Internal Medicine and a medical specialty would be welcome to apply. Specialty sessions are strongly encouraged and would be accommodated where possible. Our team is passionate about delivering safe, considerate care to a high standard. You will be working with an experienced team of nurses, advanced nurse practitioners and designated discharge support services.

We believe Acute Medicine is rewarding work that requires a balanced job plan allowing time for reflection and education, away from direct clinical care. This is essential for sustainability and to ensure we have the best diagnostic physicians working at the front door to ensure high quality patient care, junior doctor supervision and excellent service delivery. The successful applicant will have a role in teaching both under- and postgraduate students and will also support colleagues doing these activities as part of their agreed job plan.
