Looking for a new challenge with better hours, no split shifts and paid weekend enhancements? A vacancy has arisen for a flexible Bank Cook to join Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust at Granville Court Nursing Home. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated staff with good interpersonal and communication skills to join our team. As a Bank Cook, you will prepare and serve lunch and evening meals, including meals that meet dietary requirements and IDDSI levels (training can be provided). You will follow recipes and food hygiene, Health & Safety and Trust policies, while maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic kitchen environment. You will work effectively as part of a team across a 7-day service, including weekends, providing a high-quality, cost-effective catering service. The working hours are 9:00am–6:00pm on an as-and-when-required basis. If you are reliable, flexible and passionate about providing high-quality food and service, we would love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated staff with good interpersonal and communication skills to join our team and provide a high-quality, cost-effective food service in line with statutory legislation, Trust policies, Health & Safety and Food Hygiene requirements.
As a Cook, you will:
- Plan, prepare and cook meals following approved recipes and dietary requirements.
- Prepare and serve IDDSI-compliant meals and drinks at the required levels (Training can be provided).
- Use kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
- Store, label and rotate food correctly.
- Follow food hygiene, allergen and health & safety procedures.
- Minimise food waste through effective preparation and portion control.
- Maintain a clean and safe kitchen.
- Work as part of a team in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Assist other catering staff and ensure food is prepared and delivered on time.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Foundation certificate in food hygiene level 2
- Knowledge of HACCP and COSHH
- Understanding current Food Safety Legislation
- Understanding of Health Promotion through Healthy Eating
Desirable criteria
- Demonstration of further qualification interests
- Full knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment
- Manual Handling
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of the cook freeze system or prime cooking
- Working knowledge of ordering and Stock Control
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working in Mental Health services and care homes
- Menu planning
- IDDSY level
Skills and Competencies

- High standard of personal hygiene
