Specialty Doctor - Dermatology

Specialty Doctor

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.

We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

Job overview

Applications are invited for a Specialty Doctor in Dermatology to join our friendly and enthusiastic team of 13 Consultant colleagues serving a population of ~949,000 across South Essex and based at the purpose-built Arthur Rook Centre for Dermatology. This is a vacant post based at Basildon Hospital as part of the South Essex Dermatology Service which covers Brentwood, Basildon, Thurrock and Southend on Sea.

We will support flexible working hours and will also support any special interest you may wish to develop within the NHS Framework.  We are also committed to support any quality improvement projects you may wish to do as part of service improvement within Dermatology.

With the introduction of the Mid Essex Hospitals NHS Trust, it is likely that the post holder will be required to provide some services across multiple hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

The department has aspirations to develop into a regional Dermatology specialist centre. Sub-specialist services currently provided include Paediatric Dermatology, Allergy, Dermatological surgery and Dermatopathology, and the department is in the process of developing MOHs Micrographic Surgery.

As a developing regional service Dermatology occupies a prominent position within the management structure of the Trust and has enjoyed significant investment in staffing and facilities over the past 10 years. With further expansion of the catchment area there is scope to further develop the general and sub specialist aspects of the service.

Working for our organisation

Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.

We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust
