Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.

Job overview
This post is for a junior clinical fellow doctor in the General Surgical unit in Broomfield Hospital at ST1 – ST2 Level. The main role of the post is to support the FY1 doctors in delivering In-patient care in this busy and forward-thinking department. They will be at FY2/ ST1 level on the on-call rota. This placement is NOT formally recognised for training, but activities match those of the training doctors and the appointee’s career aspirations and development will be supported by educational supervision and regular appraisal. The department is a friendly and supportive department that has a track record of developing previous appointees that have progressed to formal higher surgical training and/or completion of training and Specialist Registration.
Main duties of the job
Liase between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives, and senior medical staff.
Attend to the day-to-day management of day case, outpatient and in-patients.
Attend and participate in ward rounds and operating theatre sessions as timetabled.
Teach medical students and more junior colleagues as directed.
Take part in rostered emergency work.
To keep up to date with all administrative duties including letters, results and discharge summaries as required.
Study for higher examinations and maintain continued professional development.
Undertake and assist in audit projects at various times throughout the rotations.
Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
To co-operate with members of the HR department when monitoring hours of work.
Attend induction in each new department.
Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave.
