Job overview

The purpose of this role is to promote, develop and monitor patient safety and quality care on behalf of the Divisional Director and contribute to Service and Divisional safety and quality agendas.

It is not expected that the PSQ Medical Lead will deliver all aspects of risk management and governance. Rather they will support the consultant team with their delivery of their responsibilities in line with GMC and Royal Colleges guidance in terms of risk management, audit, guidelines, and investigations.

They will support the PSQ team with the development of governance processes and provide subject matter expertise within the wider clinical and operational teams.

They will need to represent the service in terms of the wider Trust patient safety and quality agenda and strategy.

Main duties of the job

  • Promoting and developing patient safety across the service and acting as clinical advisor to the Divisional Director, Clinical Directors/CSG leads and PSQ Lead and the divisional leadership team. 

  • Developing a close working relationship with the Divisional Patient Safety and Quality Lead Nurse to ensure patient safety develops in the service in accordance with the Trust’s Quality Plan, keeping within set timeframes.

  • Ensuring that the Divisional Director is presented with accurate information and timely reporting, with clear analysis and recommendations on all aspects of service performance with regards to patient quality and safety. 

  • Acting as the medical patient safety link for the Clinical support services team and supporting the Division by linking with the Trust safety and quality team and associate medical director for quality and safety.

  • Allocating investigating officers from amongst the medical team for incident investigations and supporting these investigators with terms of reference and development of recommendations 

  • Supporting the PSQ team with the allocation of reviewers and developers for clinical guidelines and the implementation of NICE and other National guidance
