Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute hospital provider in the Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS), which is a system of health and care partners working together for our local population.
Within Mid and South Essex there are 149 GP practices, operating from over 200 sites, forming 27 Primary Care Networks and one Ambulance Trust. There are also three main community and mental health service providers who work together through a community collaborative.
We collaborate with other valuable partners, including three Healthwatch organisations, nine voluntary and community sector organisations and three top tier local authorities, with seven district, borough and city councils, as well as our local universities.

We have an exciting opportunity here at Mid and South Essex Foundation Trust for you to join us as a Health care assistant on Cardiac and Medical Day Stay team .
We are looking for someone who can at all times maintain the dignity and respect of patients.
Maintain excellent communication with patients, relatives and members of the MDT regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a variety of communications skills in accordance with the client group
Implement patient care plans as instructed by a Registered Nurse
Assist in the admission process by accurately recording patient’s demographic details
To assist patients with personal and oral hygiene as instructed and with eating and drinking
Monitoring and accurate recording of dietary and fluid intake appropriately reporting any abnormalities to the nurse in charge
Enable patients to access appropriate toilet facilities, collecting and disposing of body waste
Provide pressure area care to patients
Provide care to patients who are dying
Main duties of the job
You will maintain good levels of communication with the ward based nursing team and all other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Act in a courteous and appropriate manner with patients and relatives in line with trusts confidentiality policy
Ensure when answering the phone, the trusts telephone protocol is followed. Ensure understanding of messages received and then given to the appropriate person i.e. ward manager/nurse in charge
Relay telephone messages from relatives are correctly passed to patients.
Be able to deliver a high standard of written communication
Ensure during meal preparation, any special dietary needs are followed.
Provide advice and information tactfully and with empathy to patients who at times may be upset and angry and reassure worried patients.
Enter routine data on to the patient administration system
Restock ward areas as required, identifying shortages and placing requisitions onto the efinancials system. Supporting the Ward manager and deputies to procure in a timely and cost effective manner.
Ensure clean utility/clinical store is kept tidy informing nursing staff of any problems with stock levels. Liaise with distribution as directed by Team Leader or senior nurse in charge
Report faulty/broken/defective equipment to the trust helpdesk or appropriate person or team.

Our aim is to work together in partnership to join up health and care services, improving our populations health and wellbeing and reducing health inequalities. One such example of this collaborative work is the launch of our HCA Academy, an ICS initiative between Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) and Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSEFT) to support the incoming Health Care assistant (HCA) workforce. The academy models a ‘one workforce’ cross system approach to the onboarding, induction, education, and experience of Healthcare Assistants.
Successful candidates to this role will be able to access the additional support provided by the HCA Academy following their induction with MSEFT. This includes development opportunities, pastoral support, staff rewards and access to HCA exclusive resources such as HCA App.
