Working as part of the Paediatric Epilepsy and Neurodisability Service, you will provide expert nursing care, clinical leadership, and specialist support to children and young people (0–18 years) with epilepsy and neurodisability. You will work autonomously and collaboratively with community paediatricians, neurodisability consultants, and the Epilepsy & Neurodisability Nurse Specialist Team.

Your role will focus on five key areas of intervention:
 
1. Diagnosis – supporting families through the diagnostic process and ensuring clear communication and signposting.
 
2. Deterioration of condition – acting as the first point of contact for concerns or changes in a child’s condition.
 
3. Acute admission – ensuring continuity of care during hospital admissions and facilitating timely decision‑making and discharge.
 
4. End of life – providing compassionate support, guidance, and coordination of high‑quality end‑of‑life care.
 
5. Transitional care – supporting transitions between neonatal, paediatric, tertiary, and adult services.
 
You will be an expert resource for families, carers, and professionals, delivering specialist education, contributing to service development, and ensuring evidence‑based, high‑quality care.

Neurodisability Medical Team

- 8 Neurodisability Clinicians

- 3 with a specialist interest in epilepsy
 
Epilepsy & Neurodisability Nursing Team

- 1 × Band 7 Lead Nurse Specialist

- 2 × Band 6 Nurse Specialists
 
Clinical Locations

- Cheltenham General Hospital

-  Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

- Community hospitals across Gloucestershire
 
Clinic Types

- Dedicated epilepsy clinics (including first seizure clinics)

- Nurse‑led epilepsy clinics

- Consultant neurodisability clinics supported by Nurse Specialists
 
The team works closely with acute paediatrics, community services, therapy teams, education providers, and tertiary centres.

We are a small friendly team, working Monday to Friday.  We offer good home and work life balance.

Provide expert nursing advice and support for children and young people with epilepsy and/neurodisability.

- Undertake specialist assessments, critically analysing complex information to inform care planning.

- Support the diagnostic process, ensuring families receive clear, compassionate communication and appropriate signposting.

- Act as the first point of contact for families reporting deterioration or concerns.

- Liaise with ward teams and consultants during acute admissions to ensure continuity of care and timely discharge.

- Provide support and guidance in end‑of‑life care, including involvement in Advance Care Planning and ReSPECT processes.

- Facilitate smooth transitions between services in line with Trust policy.

- Ensure clinical practice is evidence‑based and aligned with national and local guidelines.

- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Trust electronic systems.

- Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, recognising and valuing the roles of all members.

- Maintain professional registration and adhere to the NMC Code at all times.
