Job overview

Do you want to be part of a dynamic team delivering high quality Acute Medicine, in a beautiful part of the country? Surrounded by mountains, the Irish Sea and beautiful beaches, Ysbyty Gwynedd is the perfect place to enjoy outdoor activities, spend downtime with your family or simply relax in the beautiful countryside or North Wales.

This post in Acute Medicine is based at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, North wales. The department presently consists of 3 acute physicians with plans to appoint 2 more. The appointee will have the opportunity to undertake sessions in a sub-speciality area of their choice, which could include: Elderly Care, Stroke, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Renal Medicine, or Diabetes & Endocrinology.

As part of the Health Board’s strategic collaboration with Bangor University, individuals with an interest in teaching and research who can demonstrate and agree a possible contribution to the School can be considered and nominated for recognition through the University’s process for granting honorary titles and help to deliver our shared vision for the North Wales School of Medicine and Health.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would be encouraged to develop clinical or academic specialist interests. Part time working or a job share would also be considered.

There is a dedicated team supporting the consultants in Acute Medicine,  currently consisting of 1 SpR, 1 ST and 1 IMT3 Trainee.  In addition, there are 6 SHOs (consisting of ACCS/FY3/IMT/FY2 grades) and  1 FY1. There is also support from 2 ANPs attached to the team and Welsh Government has recently invested further funding to develop our model of care including multi disciplinary teams.

The posts arise as we look to strengthen and consolidate our existing consultant base, and grow our workforce to meet the future healthcare challenges of our local population.  Following a comprehensive review we have increased funding to strengthen staffing at all tiers, building upon our stable base. We’re looking for high calibre candidates who can help us take our service to the next level.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
