Ysbyty Gwynedd Anaesthetic department is looking to recruit doctors in Anaesthesia and Critical care with an interest in mountain medicine to join our team of trainees, specialty doctors and other clinical fellows working on our resident/on call rotas.
The jobs are one year posts aimed at supporting those already accepted onto, or undertaking, the Diploma of mountain medicine, or those hoping to undertake the diploma of mountain medicine who require further development of their climbing/navigation skills.
All of the jobs would involve a mixture of work on a 1 in 8 on call rota with 10% time (approx 20 days/yr) allocated to developing their mountain medicine interest
Main duties of the job
This is a full time post with out of hour’s commitments. Remuneration will be commensurate with individuals’ experience. The job plan is negotiable, depending on individual’s interests (see section 4) and service requirements. As an example a typical job plan will include:
- Approximately 30% critical care
- Approximately 60% in Anaesthesia
- 10% based in Mountain Medicine
- Professional development and teaching built in to each of the above.
The appointment is subject to the national Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of service.
On-call rota will be 1 in 8. Annual leave will accrue under standard NHS conditions.

Experience
Essential criteria
- At least 2 years post-graduate experience.
- Evidence of interest in Quality Improvement.
- At least 1 year’s anaesthetic experience in a training post (not including foundation)
- 12 months NHS experience (clinical attachments not counted)
Desirable criteria
- Anaesthetic experience in a broad range of specialities
- Evidence of research relevant to Anaesthesia
Knowledge/Qualification
Essential criteria
- MBChB or equivalent
- Full registration with GMC
- ALS /ATLS/APLS or similar
Desirable criteria
- FRCA
- Ionising Radiation Certificate
- Member MDU/MPS or similar
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- Has achieved appropriate level of core competencies
- Completion of Foundation Program
Desirable criteria
- ITU and obstetric anaesthesia experience
- Experience in paediatric anaesthesia
- Appropriate levels of skills and abilities to provide anaesthesia for general emergencies for adults
- Good working knowledge and experience of up-to-date anaesthetics
