Theatre Porter for Operating Theatres. The role includes a good amount of moving and handling. There is also some patient contact and some stores responsibilities. Assisting in the maintenance of a clean and uncluttered environment.
Main duties of the job

We are seeking a theatre porter/general assistant to provide a range of support duties across the HOC theatres and ward area. You will need to be flexible over a range of shift patterns.
Your main duties will include assisting with both patient and non-patient manual handling, patient transfers, cleaning duties and waste management and ensuring the department is tidy. There are also Stores responsibilities, ensuring that stores are moved, put away and collected as necessary.
You must have good interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and be able to remain calm in a busy environment. This is a demanding role which requires a good level of physical resilience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To safely position patients and equipment within the peri operative environment, under the direction of the theatre staff using appropriate manual handling techniques. · To transport patients by means of bed, trolley or wheelchair, ensuring that this is carried out in a safe and courteous manner using the correct manual handling techniques. · To push out, clean and push back theatre equipment at the end of each listed theatre session. · Blood and blood products to be collected / returned as required, under the direction of the medical / nursing staff. · Deliver specimens to the appropriate laboratory at regular intervals. · Mops / buckets to be cleaned and changed daily. · To stock and clean patient trolleys and beds daily within the peri operative environment. · Collect and dispose of healthcare waste and specialist hazardous waste in line with trust policy and procedure Collect and dispose of in line with trust policy and procedures. · Soiled linen and slide sheets to be sent for laundering each morning and fresh collected daily. |
To support patient transfers between the day case, ward and theatre areas including supporting with transfer to X-ray.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Good standard of education including numeracy and literacy skills
Desirable criteria
- • Customer care training or similar experience.
Experience & Knowledge

- • Experience of working in a busy environment with conflicting demands

- • Experience of working in an NHS environment or public sector.
