Job overview
Are you an outstanding clinical nurse leader with patients and staff at the centre of everything you do? We are looking for an exceptional clinical leader for our inpatient respiratory department.
We are looking for a Band 7 ward manager who is ready to lead a team to grow and develop excellent evidence based nursing and exceptional patient experience.
Applicants who are interested will have experience in acute medicine and in the care of the acutely unwell patient.
As ward manager you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure best patient care.
In return, we will offer you excellent learning and developmental opportunities. This secondment will give you the opportunity to grow professionally and develop your leadership skills.
Main duties of the job
To carry the continuing responsibility throughout the 24 hours period for the assessment and delivery of care needs, resource management of Palm Ward including budget, capacity and patient pathways.
Provide effective leadership and evidence based Clinical support and guidance
To participate in benchmark and quality audits including observation of care. Ensuring that staff receive feedback on the results, and that where necessary action is taken to improve standards.
Being a role model for your team creating a culture that supports and empowers staff to contribute to safe and effective care.

Education and Training
Essential criteria
- Registered General Nurse or equivalent
- Educated to degree level or working towards
- Recognised mentorship course
- Evidence of continuing clinical & professional development
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of audit or research project.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience at Band 6 ward level
- Experience within speciality and management experience in acute setting
- Knowledge of current nursing issues
- Knowledge of professional responsibilities
Desirable criteria
- Prior experience as a team leader
Skills

- Management of leadership roles and skills
- Ability of managing change at ward/department level
- Evidence of managing staff and dealing with difficult situations
- Ability to prioritise own work load and that of other staff

- Competent clinical skills: male catheterisation, cannulation, phlebotomy, ILS, drug administration
