The Trust is part of the Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS) supporting a population of around 1.6 million people.

We have three main hospitals providing acute services to around 330,000 local residents. The organisation also provides specialist tertiary care for cardiac and haematology services, delivers community health services to over 445,000 residents including those in North Lancashire and hosts the National Artificial Eye Service across England. Plus, we provide urgent and emergency care services to an estimated 18 million people who visit the seaside resort each year. We employ over 7000 people from 68 different countries.

You will take on an influential role, driving the delivery of our new Quality Strategy and leading large-scale change programmes designed to reduce harm and improve the experience of our patients and staff. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you’ll, help us achieve our vision: a workforce energised by improvement, equipped with the skills and drive to make a meaningful difference every single day.

Role Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Educated to master’s level or equivalent level of experience of working at senior level in specialist area. Recognised improvement advisor training. Developed IT skills equivalent to the ECDL standard Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Programme management experience
  • Ability to rapidly build credibility with all levels in the organisations, including very senior managers and clinicians • Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive or contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
  • Ability to use excel to present data over time with problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium and long-term with comprehensive experience of project principles, techniques and tools, such as Prince 2.
  • Must be able to prioritise own work effectively and be able to direct activities of others
  • Must be able to use initiative to decide relevant actions and to make recommendations to executive sponsor / manager with the aim of improving deliverables • Ability to make decisions autonomously, when working to tight and often changing timescales
  • Project/programme management qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Quality Improvement Methodology: - Demings System of Profound Knowledge - The IHI Model for Improvement - Driver Diagrams - PDSA - Process mapping - Breakthrough Series Collaboratives - Statistical Process Control Chart and the use of data for improvement - Data collection tools Understanding of statistics and measurement for improvement
  • Experience of working in Quality Improvement within a healthcare setting
  • Proven abilities in mentorship/coaching/facilitation - guiding people/teams to achieving results and helping them to learn through practice
  • Proven capabilities in process/problem analysis, challenging existing thinking and generating improvements and solutions. • Advise and take decisions on difficult and contentious issues where there may be a number of courses of action. • Strategic thinking – ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arrive.
  • Experience of identifying and interpreting National policy.
  • Designing and managing improvement programmes. Teaching / training either to individuals or groups, informally or in a classroom setting Mentoring / coaching other team members
