Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Orthopaedic inpatient and outreach therapy team. The job will be working across the elective and trauma wards, as well as the outreach service

The Orthopaedic therapy team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and  Therapy Assistants. The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the wider Integrated Discharge and Therapy service involving ‘Discharge to Assess’ pathways. We work as part of a health and social care multidisciplinary team comprising of AHPS, Medics, Pharmacists, Social Workers and Nurses.

Candidates will have recent and relevant post registration experience and an interest in orthopaedics, surgery and discharge planning in an acute setting. 

Candidates will need to be able to travel to meet the needs of this post and will therefore need access to a vehicle for work. The post will provide an excellent opportunity for individuals that enjoy working as part of a close multi-disciplinary/multi agency team.

You must have a genuine interest in working with older people, be self-motivated, enthusiastic, resourceful and comfortable working in a changing and fast paced environment.

Main duties of the job

To work as an autonomous practitioner within clinical and professional supervision of Senior Occupational Therapists.

To manage a defined caseload, using evidence based, client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate Occupational Therapy intervention.

To play a key role in discharge planning.

To delegate, support and train assistant staff.

To continue professional development through regular training, support and supervision sessions.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • • Current professional registration with HCPC as Occupational Therapist
  • • Evidence of CPD in related field of clinical expertise.
Desirable criteria
  • Current accredited field work educator.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Practice skills in relevant field of practice (ward based experience)
  • • Multi-disciplinary/multi-agency collaborative working.
  • • Supervision/Mentoring of staff or students

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • To have a Working knowledge of a range of medical conditions appropriate to the clinical area
  • • Knowledge and appreciation of lone working risks – policy and procedure.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to work autonomously, plan, organise, prioritise and delegate appropriate interventions to Junior and support staff.
  • • Excellent team working skills and flexibility
  • • Effective written and oral communication/listening skills.
  • • Excellent time management and organisational skills within a ward based environment

  • It is essential you are a driver, with access to a vehicle insured for business use, subject to the conditions of the DDA
