Job overview
To carry out a wide range of administrative, clerical and computer centred duties and provide support for the Medical Secretaries. This is working in the ophthalmology department, based at Burnley General Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Transcription and production from Electronic Digital Dictation system of clinic letters/ reports etc
Retrieve and track case notes from Medical Records department via e-mail, telephone
Be fully conversant with the use of office machinery, eg photocopier/scan, email and Microsoft office, Word, Excel and Outlook packages
Establish and maintain efficient office systems, including filing systems and maintain booking out/and booking in system for case-notes
Liaise with Secretaries to arrange a drop off/collection of case notes from clinics etc
General clerical duties including filing, photocopying, and answering the telephone
Support new starters during their training period
Attend all mandatory Trust training Sessions and sessions relevant to the job role
Provide flexibility in terms of hours worked in accordance with the needs of the service

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main duties are audio typing of clinical correspondence. Retrieve and track in/out case notes, check appointments are made, check investigations are requested. Support the medical secretaries as well as liaise with secretaries and clinical staff as required.

Essential criteria
- GCSE English grade C or equivalent level
- Good Keyboard Skiills
Desirable criteria
- RSA/OCR typing qualification
- Ophthalmology knowledge
Job experience

- Six months clerical experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office

- Cerner Millenium knowledge
