Bolton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced, motivated and compassionate Breast Unit Manager to lead the day-to-day operational and clinical management of our Breast Unit.
This is a blended clinical and managerial role, providing hands-on specialist nursing care alongside leadership responsibility for service delivery, workforce management, quality improvement and patient experience within Breast Services.
You will act as the clinical lead nurse, working closely with Consultants, the multidisciplinary team and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care while driving service development and innovation.
Main duties of the job
As Breast Unit Manager, you will:
- Provide operational and clinical leadership for the Breast Unit
- Deliver and oversee specialist breast nursing care, including nurse-led clinics and minor procedures
- Lead, support and develop a multidisciplinary nursing workforce
- Ensure high standards of patient safety, quality, governance and experience
- Manage staffing, rotas, sickness absence and appraisals
- Maintain effective budget, resource and stock management
- Lead service improvement, audits, incident reviews and quality initiatives
- Act as a role model in line with NMC Code, Trust values and professional standards
- Manage patient concerns and contribute to complaint resolution
- Support learning, mentorship and professional development across the team

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To manage the nursing staff within the Breast Unit with all elements of management involved such as appraisals, development, training, sickness management, rosters and leading change.
- To work closely with the matron and operational colleagues to ensure the department runs efficiently and effectively, communicating with the wider Breast colleagues and stakeholders such as radiology.
- The post holder will deliver routine follow-up nurse-led clinics as well as support minor Breast procedures
- Arrange appropriate training for staff and ensure mandatory and statutory training compliance
- Report any clinical governance issues and support with resolutions
