Our Vision is to provide the best mental health, learning disability, autism and community based services for the populations we serve.
As an integrated mental health, learning disability and community Trust, Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of services including:
• Primary and secondary mental health care for children and adults including specialist inpatient child and adolescent mental health provision, perinatal mental health, forensic services including low and medium secure care.
• Specialist community support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, including intensive support.
• Community physical health and well-being services for children and adults.
The Trust was first established in 2002 and employs approximately 7,000 staff who provide care from more than 400 sites. Job overview
Lancashire & South Cumbria Foundation Trust recognise and value the importance volunteer support is to us and our patients. We currently have a volunteer role supporting on Kentmere Ward in Kendal. You must be 18 years and over to apply for this role. Please apply by downloading the attached application form.

Main duties of the job
Volunteering on award involves a long term commitment (for example 9 – 12 months), and to bring continuity and stability for patients and staff, we ask volunteer to support by doing the same periods each week, which are discussed and agreed by the volunteer and volunteer supervisor.
The Culture of Care programme is an important part of the Trust’s ethos and is centred around lived experience, co-production and the patient voice. With the aim to ensure the best possible care is delivered to all our patients by ensuring patient voice is the central theme of treatment and support. The programme will support individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to facilitate service change, through collaboration and community activated ideas, led by various input channels.
Working for our organisation
Duties of this role may include the following, although the experience and skills of individual volunteers determine what is undertaken:
• Engage with staff, service users, families and carers.
• Supporting with ongoing Quality Improvement projects. Helping to measure and evaluate the progress and impact culture of care is having on the ward, through informal conversation/ feedback and surveys.
• Supporting staff to embed Culture of Care standards into ward practices and actions
• Championing the ethos of the Culture of Care programme ‘Nothing about me, without me’ – providing a holistic approach, to caring, listening and valuing each other.
Availability around mealtimes on the ward, between the hours of (11:00am – 2:00pm) or (3:00pm – 6:00pm) – This is to support the wards at this crucial time of the ward day where social interaction and company is impactful. (not essential but desirable)
Interests in hobbies and activities - The wards have varied on the ward activities such as Arts & crafts / Low impact sports / Board games etc. Activity has high importance within therapeutic time on wards and is a prime time to engage with our service users.
For this role applicants must be over the age of 18
A Enhanced DBS is required for this role and there is no charge to a volunteer for a DBS application.
