Job overview

This post will assist in delivering the Ophthalmic Service to the population. This job will have 10 sessions plus the possibility of 1 extra session to be used flexibly outside normal hours.

Main duties of the job

Within Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Trust the Ophthalmic Directorate provides a high quality preventative and curative service for the towns of Wigan and Leigh and surrounding districts. The Directorate has an integrated Community and Hospital Eye Service.

On-Call

Please note that senior positions (AFC band 8A or above) may be expected to participate in an on-call rota, if the role is predominantly operational.

To provide surgical procedures and  outpatient consultations on a range of ophthalmic conditions. See attached JD and PS. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Full registration with the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • ALS or equivalent
  • MRCOphth or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Postgraduate experience
  • Able to carry our BLS to a standard that accords with the UK Resuscitation Council guidelines
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Ophthalmic surgery
  • Experiences of AMD services
  • Experience of Diabetic Screening services
  • Completed audit projects

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communicator and team player
  • Ability to keep good clinical records
  • Ability to to take a clinical history and examine patients commensurate with a middle grade member of medical staff
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching and training experience
  • Leadership roles - clinical or management

Additional

Essential criteria
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary and without hesitation
  • Pass OH medical examination
