Advanced Endoscopy Fellow

NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 4 (MT04)

AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.

But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.

Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:

  • might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
  • often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
  • could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience

We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.

Job overview

There are three posts available for whole-time non-resident Advance Endoscopy Fellow  to work as a ‘middle-grade’ SpR-equivalent at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.  These posts are designed to provide the candidate(s) with additional experience in Luminal Endoscopy and advanced therapeutic endoscopy/ EUS/ERCP either in upper or lower GI,  at a peri or post CCT level.

The posts are a six-month contract in the first instance with the option by mutual agreement to extend this by a further 6 months.

The endoscopy department provides an extensive range of both diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and will provide an excellent opportunity for the candidate(s) to develop a specialist interest in therapeutic endoscopy. UHL is also involved in the national bowel cancer screening programme and delivers a large programme of JAG courses.

The candidate should have completed basic medical  training, passed their MRCP examination, hold a valid JAG certificate, and be independent in diagnostic upper & lower GI endoscopy. Preference will be given to candidates whose Curriculum Vitae shows good career progression.

Main duties of the job

3 supervised training lists/week (ERCP/EUS/ therapeutic endoscopy - dependent on specialist area candidate chooses) plus 2 service lists, 1 clinic, 1 Admin session, 2 Research sessions, 1 MDT session

·         Triage/review of EUS referrals; participation in HPB/luminal MDTs.

·         Outpatient clinics/inpatient reviews; periprocedural care and consent.

·         Taking part in research activities

·         [Optional] Participation in Gastroenterology/GI bleed rota subject to experience and service need.

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Endoscopy services operates from 7 hospital sites across the county and the successful post holder will be expected to work flexibly across these sites, primarily working from the three acute hospital sites in Leicester

There will be an expectation that the postholder will run 2 endoscopy sessions on a weekend list on a 1 in 4 frequency.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
