NHS Medical & Dental: Locum Consultant

We are actively promoting flexible working options, helping you to manage a work / life balance

Job overview

The post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester and the medical school.

This post is available initially on a Locum basis for a period of 12 months. The post has arisen as a result of anticipated sickness and maternity leave in the department  resulting in a gap in service provision. Flexible working will be required with inclusion in to the hub and spoke service the team deliver regionally. The post will require travel regionally to deliver elective clinical care. Subspecialty interests will be supported whenever possible however a urology interest is desirable.

  • This post holder will join existing eight surgeons ( 1 Locum post) to participate in a 1:8 on-call rota which has been organised to enable separation of emergency care from elective care.

Main duties of the job

To support and participate in the tertiary paediatric surgical service in the Children’s Hospital including on-call. To work in collaboration with the existing multidisciplinary team to enhance and further develop the services provided for neonates and children in Leicestershire and beyond. To take responsibility for in and out-patients under the care of the named consultant.  . To maintain the paediatric surgical service and provide outpatient clinics and operative surgery to Peterborough and Kettering hospitals.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
