Job overview
The Post holder is responsible for working in a clinical area or technical (workshop) to carry out scheduled/planned preventative maintenance, servicing, repair, calibration, safety and acceptance testing on medical devices.
The Post holder is expected to have the ability and knowledge to work on high, medium and low risk medical devices and work independently.
The Post overall will support the repair, maintenance and Preventative maintenance of medical equipment in accordance to the medical device management guidance 2015.
The post holder must be able to communicate effectively using good negotiation skills to clinical, technical and OEM support staff. Within this the ability to identify faults should underpin a cost-effective solution to a wide range of medical equipment repairs but the use of high standards of safety with accountability must be evident.
The Post holder should have the ability and knowledge to work independently and be able to disseminate complex solutions and apply their knowledge to other staff.
In support of this, the post holder will adhere to any training guidance as identified in the PDR (personal development review) and TNA (training needs analysis) supporting the pathway expected of a senior level expert of this field.
The departments' opening hours are currently Monday to Friday 08.00 to 17.30 excluding weekends and bank holidays.
This role does involve indirect working with patients.

The EBME Department is looking for an experienced EBME Senior Technician to join their team in the day to day maintenance of Medical Equipment at the Hospital and centres where Croydon University Hospital provides care.
The post holder will be expected to deliver a high standard of work relating to EBME across its multiple sites.
Our main aim is to provide and efficient and safe service to patients and stakeholders and offer excellent customer care to patients, their families and colleagues that use all our services at our multiple sites across Croydon.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Post graduate diploma in Engineering, BEng in electronics or equivalent experience with high-risk relevant medical engineering courses.
Desirable criteria
- Optional IT network qualifications in medical device integration
- Identify own training and development needs and undertake appropriate training/education as required
- To have professional IEng status
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to fault find on medical devices and also the ability to use such techniques under demanding situations.
- Able to ensure that the best course of corrective action is taken within the clinical or non-clinical environment
Desirable criteria
- Good experience of general fault finding techniques applicable to any technical device. Proven ability in these processes
Experience
Essential criteria
- Good broad knowledge of medical device operation and management
Desirable criteria
- A good level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from equipment failure. Knowledge of interactions between equipment, patient and operator (3)
Skills
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate information across professional boundaries. This will include periods of high demand such as fault finding in emergency situations or obtaining information without technical or language constraints.
- To be able to support clinical problems using engineering methods
- Excellent technical knowledge
- Excellent communication skills for dealing with people at all levels
- The ability to prioritize workloads and plan effectively
- Ordering and budget awareness
- To be able to keep up to date with scientific, engineering and medical research
