Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 or newly qualified Physio therapist to join a rotational post within multi-pathology general rehabilitation & Stroke rehabilitation based at Magnolia Unit ( St Michael's primary care centre, Enfield) and Cape town / Canterbury ward at Chase Farm Hospital as part of a 7-day therapy service.  

The role will be working with patients admitted for rehabilitation within an inpatient setting, meeting the needs of the multicultural and diverse population. You will work as part of the wider inpatient multi-disciplinary team to deliver holistic care in treating the physical, cognitive, perceptual, sensory and emotional conditions associated with this client group. 
As a Band 5 PT you will be supported by a senior therapy team and will be actively planning, assessing and evaluating the needs of patients within your caseload through use of a variety of PT assessments approaches, goal setting, treatment planning, completing outcome measures and discharge planning.  We endeavour to support your learning and development formally through a robust appraisal process and regular supervision by the Team lead. There are internal learning opportunities throughout the trust.   
Our Therapy Service is supported by an experienced Team Lead Therapist, Team Lead Physiotherapist and Integrated Clinical Lead.  
 
 

 

 

Main duties of the job

Clinical

 

  •  To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work and that work delegated to support staff.
  • To assess patients including those with diverse or complex presentations/multi pathologies: using clinical reasoning skills and assessment techniques to provide a clinical diagnosis.
  • To utilise knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options to select and deliver a physiotherapy programme to individual patients and plan their successful discharge.
  • To take responsibility for a delegated caseload, managing patients with a variety of conditions and pathologies
  • Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
  • Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients and carers to progress rehabilitation and treatment Programmes This will include patients who may have difficulties in understanding or communicating.
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) standards.

To participate in the delivery of the overall aims and objectives of the Inpatient service and Trust values. 

 To participate in clinical governance and quality improvement projects as allocated by Team manager / therapy lead. 

 To ensure that all therapy clinical areas are well maintained and comply with health, safety and Infection control guidelines, ensuring the safe use and storage of equipment and therapy materials. 

 To be responsible for the operation of a computer system e.g. Care flow/ RIO/EPR. To complete clinical documentation and write summaries of intervention to be included in formal therapy reports. To ensure that timely and accurate written records and activity data are maintained in accordance with professional and local standards. 

 To participate in audit and evaluation activities as agreed with clinical line manager 

 To attend and participate in MDT staff meetings, service reviews and developmental meetings. 

 To contribute to the effectiveness of team working through timely and appropriate communication between all work colleagues within  rehabilitation services .

 To maintain accurate timely written records of all interventions and communications including letter writing, sketch plans and discharge reports. 

To use information technology for communication; voicemail, email and word processing and collecting data for performance indicators/ outcome measures on clinical information systems.

 Rotational Post- based within complex multi-pathology therapy team, Stroke/neuro inpatient rehabilitation , general rehabilitation & Non- weight bearing / stepdown wards based at St Michael’s primary care centre & Chase farm hospital. 

To be an active part of the Physio Therapy Team in the delivery of inpatient rehabilitation. 

To work well as part of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs and goals of the patients.

To provide Physio therapy to patients admitted for rehabilitation within an inpatient setting, meeting the needs of the multicultural and diverse population. 

To be part of the 7 day PT service rota, with the ability to work Saturday &Sunday to support the weekend rota alongside other OTs and Physiotherapists. 

You will work closely with Inpatient, acute and community Allied health professionals and other MDT colleagues, local authority teams, social workers, nursing and medical colleagues to plan and provide effective rehabilitation and supported discharge planning.

To deliver holistic care in treating the physical, cognitive, perceptual, sensory and emotional conditions associated with this client group.

To be part of the 7 day PT service rota, with the ability to work Saturday &Sunday to support the weekend rota alongside other OTs and Physiotherapists.

Education and qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
  • HPC Registered.
  • Evidence of ongoing relevant CPD in portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Any other relevant qualifications/degree

Skills and abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner. Ability to prioritise and manage own work load in a busy environment with supervision
  • Good Clinical Reasoning / problem solving skills. Ability to process, manage and communicate sensitive information in relation to patient care and convey this in an appropriate and clear manner.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad under graduate experience in core clinical areas
  • Awareness of own knowledge and learning style.
  • Experience of working as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Participation in project activity
