Job overview

The Accounts Receivable Manager is responsible for leading and delivering an efficient and comprehensive accounting and credit control service, covering Overseas and Private Patient income streams. The role has direct management responsibility for a team of Credit Controllers, Billing Officers, and a Deputy Manager, ensuring high performance, accountability, and continuous development.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting the wider objectives of the Trust by driving effective debt reduction, strengthening income recovery processes, and ensuring income is billed accurately and collected within agreed timeframes.

In addition to operational leadership, the role requires active involvement in training, supporting, and advising both finance and non-finance colleagues to improve income awareness & compliance

The Accounts Receivable Manager provides a critical customer-focused function by analysing, investigating, and resolving complex financial and debt-related queries. Clear, professional, and confident communication is essential when liaising with internal stakeholders, patients, and external customers to resolve issues efficiently and maintain positive working relationships.

Main duties of the job

Managing the workload & processes of the Accounts Receivable function and providing a professional customer focused service for two separate NHS Trusts - London North West Healthcare University NHS Trust & Central London Community Healthcare Trust..

 

Ensure that procedures and timetables are followed for invoicing and credit processing, providing timely management reports and ensuring the completeness of the credit control process – including managing levels of debt outstanding & what consider relevant actions to taken in areas of dispute.

 

Provide extensive operational support to the Trust in managing its Income position by ensuring that invoices are raised in timely manner and debts are paid promptly, managing issues that have been escalated up as a result of non-payment and maintaining key relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

 

Required to design new processes and support the Head of Transactional Finance on the identification of improvements to systems that will make the service more efficient and streamlined.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree - Finance /Accounting
  • Knowledge of Basic Accounting Principles and VAT compliance regulations
  • Advance IT skills on Microsoft Office 365 suite
Desirable criteria
  • • Qualified Member of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable advanced theoretical and practical expertise in credit control, gained within high-volume, complex transactional settings, ideally within the NHS or wider public sector.
  • Practical, hands-on experience working with finance systems in relation to Sales and Purchase Ledger functions, e.g. eFinancials.
  • Experience managing a team of staff, including conducting appraisals, supporting staff development, and undertaking performance management.
  • Demonstrable experience leading projects to implement significant changes in working practices and procedures, supporting process standardisation and optimisation in line with organisational objectives.
  • Knowledge of NHS Finance, principles & terminology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in being involved in audit and compliance work
  • Experience in dealing with patients' in relation to sensitive issues concerning outstanding debt
