Main duties of the job

We are looking an Elderly Care Specialist to join our team. We welcome dynamic, enthusiastic candidates who are passionate about providing great medical care to our elderly population and are keen to be involved in innovative service development and quality improvement within an outstanding organisation. Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • Full MRCP or equivalent
  • Meets the crtieria set out in the generic capabilities framework for specialist grade.
Desirable criteria
  • Appropriate higher degree (eg MD, PhD, or equivalent

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 12 years practice (either continious or in aggregate) as a doctor postgraduate and a minimum of 6 years in the relevant specialty in Specialty Doctr and/or closed SAS grades
  • General training in Geriatric medicine to specialist level or equivalent
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evaluate and manage a patient, formulating a differential diagnosis and initiating an appropriate management plan.

Management Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate at a strategic and operational level
Desirable criteria
  • Attended management training course.
  • Knowledge of budget and finance

Experience in Training, Audit and Research

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors.
  • Experience of clinical audit.
Desirable criteria
  • Completed ‘Train the Trainers’ course.
  • Relevant research articles in peer reviewed journals.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm, and approachability.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development, revalidation, and clinical governance
