We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Consultant Surgeon with a specialist interest in benign Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery to join our surgical team for a six-month fixed-term appointment. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated clinician to contribute to high-quality patient care within a supportive and progressive environment. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver elective and emergency surgical services, participate in the on-call rota, and support the education and training of junior doctors. The post offers valuable experience in a busy district general hospital setting, with access to modern facilities and a strong commitment to clinical governance and service improvement. This post is also open to individuals who wish to undertake private practice within Kingston Hospital. |

Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- FRCS or equivalent
- On GMC’s Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT from the date of the interview or have confirmed eligibility for Specialist Registration.
Desirable criteria
- MSc/PhD
Management Skills
Essential criteria
- Commitment to effective departmental management and business planning
- Experience in business case formulation
Desirable criteria
- Attended management training course
Experience in Training, Audit and Research
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable commitment and ability to teach and train undergraduates and junior doctors.
- Experience of clinical audit
- Relevant research articles in peer-reviewed journals
Desirable criteria
- Completed ‘Train the Trainers’ course.
- PG qualification in Medical Education
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to motivate staff, to facilitate appropriate changes in clinical practice and to work as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm and approachability

Experience
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable experience in Upper GI and General Surgery, including complex hiatal surgery.
- Competence in gastrointestinal endoscopy (JAG accreditation or equivalent desirable
- Ability to manage elective and emergency surgical cases independently
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of research, audit, and publications in peer-reviewed journals
