The post holder will work as an integral part of the Larch ward team with a special focus on enhancing the environment, managing equipment and stock levels. He/she will be responsible for the liaising with stores and ordering stock online using our online ordering application. This role involves a lot of equipment management, cleaning and storage. The successful candidate will work closely with the ward team ensuring a clean, safe, well stocked, organised and comfortable environment for all.

Our maternity unit at NUH comprises of a 17 bedded labour ward, a 52 bedded maternity ward, stand-alone Maternity Day Assessment Unit and Triage, alongside and stand-alone Midwife-Led Birth Centers, Antenatal Clinic and Booking Center. We are proud of our maternity service and are on an exciting maternity improvement journey.
Main duties of the job
- Assist the ward manager and housekeeping team in monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards on the ward.
- With the domestic, ensure the ward is safe and tidy at all times.
- Alongside clinical staff, ensure general and specialist equipment, surfaces and furnishings are cleaned as per cleaning policy.
- Identify any problems with cleanliness and report to the Ward manager/Midwife in Charge, or deputy.
- Co-ordinate and organise specialist and deep cleaning with the clinical team and estates.
- Adhere to trust and national health and safety regulations at all times.
- Ensure that patients food is stored correctly, ward fridge kept clean and contents monitored. Liaise with the hospital kitchens for supplies as required. Ensure that fridges are cleaned and defrosted when needed.
- With the ward team and domestic staff, monitor service delivery relating to cleaning, food storage, and the environment. Inform the midwife in charge/ matron of any concerns.
- Liaise with the medical engineering team regarding the maintenance and upkeep of clinical equipment.
- Monitor and co-ordinate other ad hoc maintenance, liaising with the support services helpdesk as required for other services.
- Clean equipment as per policy and store appropriately. Work with ward staff regarding equipment rotation, servicing and repairs.
- Play a key role in ensuring that all staff and visitors follow infection control policies.
