Job overview
To undertake decontamination science duties in providing a specialized decontamination of medical devices service contributing to the clinical care of the patient - to carry out the receipt, disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, packing and sterilization of reusable medical devices and record all tasks in the tracking and tracing database.
To ensure that all products manufactured in the Decontamination Services department within the Trust are fit for purpose and produced in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the Quality Manager System (QMS) relevant to the area and to work as part of a team and undertake duties as directed by the management team of the Trusts decontamination facilities.
To work in all areas of the decontamination facilities at both hospitals (Chelsea and Westminster Hospital) and weekend as and when required.
Main duties of the job
1. To reprocess reusable medical devices, disassemble, clean, disinfect, check, assemble, sterilize, dispatch and track in a controlled environment.
2. To work in accordance with Departmental Policy, Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Management System.
3. Report any discrepancies to the team leader immediately.
4. Complete the relevant documents for any non-conformances.
5. To contribute to ensuring that quality assurance and production controls systems are maintained in accordance with standard work instructions.
6. To provide a collection and delivery service to the Decontamination Departments' customers
7. To inform the Decontamination Technician Supervisors of any raw material shortages and ensure stock is rotated.
8. To receive raw materials and distribute raw materials to the production area, ensuring that all materials have been booked out in accordance with the quality procedure.
9. Under limited supervision meet the demands of the Department’s workload whilst consistently achieving high quality standards which will be measured by in-process checks and non-conformance reports.
10. To undertake initial investigation into non-conformances reports as instructed
11. To use manual dexterity and concentration for the disassembly and reassembly of the reusable medical devices in accordance with Manufacturer’s instructions

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To operate decontamination equipment and carry out routine tests in accordance with the Planned Preventative Maintenance Schedules, Quality Standards and Guidance
2. Attend regular departmental team meetings.
3. To attend any training as required.
4. To undertake duties consistent with the responsibility of the grade and needs of the service
5. Required to work weekends, bank holidays and participate in the department’s on-call schedule.

- Experience in the decontamination of reusable medical devices-surgical instruments and flexible endoscopes; using traceability systems, decontamination equipment and independent monitoring system
- Knowledge of flexible scopes/ surgical instruments
