Job overview
Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust (ICHT) is looking to appoint a Consultant in Urology with a subspecialist interest in urological cancer. The role of this new substantive consultant post is to provide subspecialist urological cancer outpatient, diagnostic and inpatient services for adult patients.
The post will require extensive skills in the surgical management of urological cancer including expertise in undertaking complex open, endoscopic and robotic surgery for bladder cancer. The post holder will be expected to play a key role in improving the urological cancer services efficiency with large scale pathway redesign
Main duties of the job
· The post holder will form part of the urology team focused on the diagnosis and treatment of bladder cancer.
· The post holder will attend the specialist MDT for bladder cancer and will be part of the post-MDT outpatient clinic.
· The post holder will be expected to take an active role in managing patient pathways, this will include undertaking regular clinics and diagnostic lists.
· The post holder will help to train junior specialist trainees and to actively contribute to fortnightly departmental education meetings.
· During a twelve-month period the appointee can expect to see all common urological oncology problems and pathologies, and in addition will see a variety of more unusual and general urology conditions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Full JD is provided-
- · To provide a rapid access clinic for patients referred with suspected urological cancer, this will include undertaking outpatient clinics at a neighbouring Trust in North West London as part of the Urological Cancer Centre hub and spoke model
- · To provide outpatient consultations for patients with a confirmed urological cancer diagnosis
- · To provide urological cancer operative surgery, this can include utilising operating lists when other consultants are on annual leave
- · To take a lead on the Superficial Bladder Cancer Pathway
- · To provide operative support the co-dependant specialities of colorectal and gynaecology cancer part of the ICHT pelvic cancer hub
- · To take part in the on the Consultant Urology on call rota. The department operates a Consultant of the Week model. During the on call week the post holder will be free of their usual elective clinical duties.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- On GMC’s Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration
- Appropriate Royal College Membership
- An appropriate higher Urology surgical qualification
Knowledge/ Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable evidence of training and expertise in general adult Urological surgery.
- Experience of complex open, laparoscopic and robot assisted pelvic surgery
- Ability to undertake Urology general on-call supporting the major trauma centre at SMH and providing intra-operative consults required by colorectal or gynaelogical cancer services.
- IT Skills and computer literacy
