Job overview
This is a senior leadership opportunity to lead two high-profile and fast-growing services at a pivotal point in their development, combining operational excellence with meaningful transformation. We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking General Manager with extensive experience of operational leadership in complex NHS organisations, able to deliver performance, quality, workforce and financial outcomes while responding to increasing demand and complexity. The successful candidate will be a visible, values-led leader who works credibly with clinical and multidisciplinary teams, manages competing priorities and risk, and translates strategy into sustained improvement. Crucially, this role requires someone who develops and takes teams with them, building capability, confidence and a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement, while consistently role‑modelling and living the Trust’s HEART values.
Responsible for the operational delivery, performance and governance for an agreed portfolio of clinical services, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and regulatory standards.
Lead directorate teams in the efficient and effective delivery of high-quality, patient- centred services, including strategic planning, service development, and change management initiatives. Foster innovation, modernisation, and high levels of satisfaction for both staff and patients.
Main duties of the job
Service Delivery, Planning and Development
· To provide leadership for the administrative function of Paediatric and Genetics Services, ensuring that all relevant contractual and performance requirements are met. Ensuring there is an effective system for PTL management and ongoing assessment of future demand and capacity requirements.
· To be accountable for the delivery of the Trust’s operational performance against the Constitutional Standards, through effective performance management of specialty services. Highlighting risks against performance and identifying appropriate remedial action through root cause analysis.
· To oversee the delivery and improvement of Paediatric and Genetics Services Trust-wide, by working with other departments, supporting the achievement of agreed performance and quality standards.
· To integrate the work of the medical, nursing and other professional staff in the management of these services, working in close conjunction with the Clinical Directors, other divisions and Heads of Nursing, including identifying opportunities for growing, improving and re-designing services, in line with overall organisational strategy.
· To provide expertise in all aspects of service delivery and pathway design to clinical teams and operational management colleagues. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge on local and national initiatives, strategy and policy relevant to Paediatrics and Genetics.
