Person specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC registerable Medical Qualification.
  • Higher qualifications MFOM
  • MD/Phd/MSc MRCP or MRCGP
  • On GMC Specialist Register in relevant specialty, or at the time of interview within 6 months of expected date of CCT NB: Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register in relevant specialty by date of interview.
  • Recognised Teaching skills course/qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • Management Course and/or qualifications

Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Comprehensive clinical experience within the NHS occupational medicine.
  • Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good medical Practice set out by the GMC.
  • Sound NHS experience for core issues such as infectious disease and blood borne viruses and surveillance programmes.
  • Undergone relevant training to be Clinical and Educational Supervisor

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Clinical skills commensurate with the provision of an NHS occupational health physician service.
  • A thorough understanding of the principles of clinical governance, must have experience of designing and undertaking audit and presenting outcomes.
  • Competent in the use of office-based IT ie word, outlook, excel, MS Teams.
  • Willingness to engage in and learn new IT skills and contribute to the development of future IT systems within the department.
  • Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research in one or more aspects of Occupational health.
  • Experience in teaching small and large groups of students, managers, and peers.
Desirable criteria
  • Publication of relevant review articles or case reports

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Ability to introduce changes to systems of working to improve quality.
  • An ability to communicate with clarity in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and act as an authority of expertise in specialist field of Occupational Health
  • Ability to develop others’ knowledge, skills and competencies through assessment and targeted educational as well as a broad delivery of expertise to various groups.
  • Professional attitude towards work, reliability, good record of attendance and tidy personal appearance
